HST Baby Quilt – First finish of 2014!

It has been so long since I last posted about quilts that you’d be forgiven for thinking I’ve stopped making them (as if!)

Two things are stopping me from sewing. Firstly I’ve lost my sewing room while our building work is happening (and the kitchen table is being used for everything) and secondly university work is eating up most of my spare time, but babies are still being born so I had to find time from somewhere for this. After so long away from the machine it was lovely to be back in front of it and to be working with fabric again.

I considered a few patterns and then I went back to the tried and tested and always versatile half square triangles, I have never regretted making a HST.  I have another quilt to make after this, and guess what, I’m doing HSTs for that too.

Inspired by the cuddliness of some shoulder protectors that a friend gave me just after Theo was born, I used minkee for the backing of this quilt and it has worked really well, apart from the fact the extra thickness made quilting it a little tricky.

Fabrics are all from my stash. This baby’s Daddy works with aircraft, so I started with the plane fabric and selected colours around that.

You have some lovely fabrics in your stash. They go beautifully together. Thanks for linking up.

Clare, I find it amazing that you made a quilt at all, with all the renovations going on. The fabric is beautiful-I love using a mix of what’s in my stash for scrappy quilts too-but you’re brave to quilt with minky-so stretchy!

I also like your fabric choices. Lovely and fresh for a spring baby! Did you use wadding as well as the minky?

I did, but as you are the second person to have asked that, I’m thinking that’s not necessarily the normal thing to do? I could have saved some money on the wadding! 😉

Such a perfect baby blanket and the fabrics are just so fresh!

I’m a sucker for this style of quilt. I love it!
