I am extremely lucky to have a sister who enjoys taking photos as much as I do. It goes a long way towards making up for all those moments when I am completely missing from family photos because I spend most of the time the wrong side of the lens.
This summer I was determined to put some time aside before Theo started school to get some photos of the three of us. Many people who have seen the pictures have assumed I arranged it as a maternity shoot, but actually the bump was incidental, what I really wanted to capture something even more fleeting… my husband’s facial hair!
Whenever Jim gets a decent chunk of leave he grows a beard and I LOVE it. Then when he goes back to work he has to shave it all off (Boo!) The first time I requested he grow it he moaned that I was “trying to turn him into a hipster” but after receiving quite a few compliments, I think he’s realised it just really suits him.
The place we chose for our pictures was West Wittering which is our local beach and one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in the UK. Not only do you get the lovely wide skies and open landscapes, but you also get the beach huts for a lovely colourful backdrop.
As all family photo shoots should be, it was also good fun and although this summer has been full of disappointing days weather wise, it at last gave us (and more importantly Theo) a chance
to play around in the sand and dip our toes in the water!
