DIY Countdown to Christmas board

I thought I’d share a little festive DIY that I produced for the team at Pinty Plus UK. It’s a very satisfying quick upcycle which I really enjoyed putting together and which I’m pretty confident will become a memorable part of our family Christmas routine.

To make this countdown to Christmas blackboard you need the following…

  • An old picture frame without glass
  • Pinty Plus spray blackboard paint
  • Pinty Plus spray chalk paint in a colour of your choice (I used Broken White)
  • Chalk
  • Pencil
  • Sandpaper
  • Printed words to fit your frame (I did mine in Photoshop, but you can do them in Word too)
  • Blackboard pen

The back of the photo frame is sprayed with blackboard paint and the frame itself is sprayed with chalk paint. The lettering is easier than you might think to do. You just cover the reverse of your printed words with chalk and then trace the outline on the right side with pencil. (Thank you Robyn for introducing me to this concept!)

The video below was shot in Pinty Plus’s warehouse on a farm in Hampshire and the pallets that made up the backdrop were just bits I found laying around. At least one person who works there thought I was a bit off when I wanted them in shot!

Here’s the full step by step tutorial showing you how to put it together…
